When we think of the best matches of all time, we think of epic long encounters, such as Bret ‘Hitman’ Hart taking on Shawn Michaels at WrestleMania 12.

In the first ever Iron Man match, neither man gave any sign of weakness after an hour-long battle.

In the end, it was Michaels who gained the upper hand (and the WWF Championship) pinning the Hitman in overtime.

But some superstars have made having short matches an art form, with several matches barely lasting long enough for the referee to count to three.

Here are the 6 shortest matches in WWE history.

#6 Bob Backlund Vs Diesel

Bob Backlund won the WWF Championship in 1994, fans were rightly confused. Backlund hadn’t been relevant for years, with the Hitman being one of the most popular champions in recent memory.

Yet mere days later, Backlund would come up against Kevin Nash, under his Diesel moniker at a live event.

In just 8 seconds, Diesel won the title with a jack-knife powerbomb, and hold the title for almost an entire year.

#5 Damien Sandow Vs. The Great Khali

In 2014, the intellectual saviour of the masses was confused about his own identity. Being the second man in history to cash in Money in the Bank and lose the year prior, had taken its toll on the robed warrior.

After impersonating several stars (as well as the occasional supervillain) Sandow decided to dress up like Vince McMahon.

Unfortunately for Sandow, Stephanie McMahon did not take too kindly to the pretense and ordered him to face the Great Khali, who squashed him in a mere 6 seconds.

#4 Erick Rowan Vs. The Rock

Appearing at WrestleMania has become an annual tradition of the people’s champion, who officially returned to the company in 2011.

Returning at WrestleMania 32 in 2016, The Rock had a lengthy entrance in Dallas, including using a flamethrower and being rooted on by cheerleaders.

Making up for lost time, therefore, the Rock bizarrely challenged a member of the Wyatt family to a match, which Erick Rowan answered.

A single Rock Bottom gave Rowan the loss, and Johnson the record of the shortest match in WrestleMania history.

#3 The Big Boss Man Vs. The Rock

The Rock clearly has all the talent of a champion, which is perhaps why he appears on this list, not once, but twice.

At the 1998 Survivor Series, the company was gripped in a ‘Deadly Games’ Tournament, for the vacant WWF Championship.

With Vince McMahon clearly wanting to make things difficult for the Great One, the Rock had to contest against the Big Boss Man, whom he soundly defeated in about 5 seconds.

However, the reason why the match finished so fast was later explained, as The Rock met McMahon’s pick Mankind in the finals.

Shockingly, McMahon would relive the Montreal Screwjob of the previous year, turning on Foley and siding with the Rock, and thus explaining why he had such an easy match against the former corrections officer.

#2 William Regal Vs. Spike Dudley

A match between these two on a random RAW in 2002 may not stick out, but it does have the accolade of being the shortest match in WWE history.

As the match started, the then-European Champion deliberately dropped some of his signature Brass Knuckles, to distract the ref, as he placed a second pair in a turnbuckle.

However, it was the wily Spike Dudley who got the upper hand, stealing the knucks whilst Regal and the ref looked away, clocking Regal with them, and winning the European Championship in the process.

#1 Tazz and Mideon Vs. Jerry Lawler and Chris Jericho

You’d think with 4 men in the entire match, the match would be much longer, as partners would be able to break up pins and submissions.

However, it was Tazz’s tag team Partner that proved to be his undoing, as the sight of Naked Mideon, dressed only in boots and a fanny-pack freaked the former ECW Champion out.

Just as the bell rang, the King saw his opportunity, pinning the submission specialist, making the match just 3 seconds long.
